Koala and quoll populations in a Logan district are set to be wiped out unless the Federal Government stops a major industrial precinct proposed as part of State Government plans for the region, local conservationists say.
North Maclean residents and Logan conservation groups have been fighting governments for more than a decade to stop the development they say is home to some of the nation’s most vulnerable native populations.
They are calling on the Federal Government to block the development of the North Maclean Enterprise Precinct and protect the federally endangered and vulnerable species including spotted quolls, koalas and glossy black cockatoos.
“The Logan and Albert Conservation Association does not support any proposal for the development of the proposed site for industry and business development,” LACA President Anne Page said.
“If this development is approved, it will contribute to the loss of ecological values in the region and local area that cannot be replaced — it will contribute to the local extinction of species.”
